SiSU Training Academy · Spring 2026 · Hawthorn East
Show up to tryouts with confidence in the work you have put in.
A structured 7-week athletic performance program for VJBL athletes. Fitness sessions, gym sessions, or both.
See the programs →The reality
At a typical VJBL rep tryout, a club with 6 teams in your age group has 60 spots. But on average, around 30 of those are pre-allocated to athletes already in the program. Your child is effectively competing for the remaining 30 spots — against every new player who shows up.
The kids who are still running hard in the final 20 minutes get noticed. The ones who fade by halftime get judged on what the coach sees when they look up from their notepad.
The schedule
Simple. One fitness session per week, one gym session per week. Choose one, or do both. The program runs 16 August – 27 September 2026.

The coach
"Rep 8 is where SiSU starts."
I hold an Exercise Science degree and I’m currently head coach at Hawthorn Magic VJBL — so I’m not designing this program from theory. I’m designing it from the sideline, watching week after week what actually separates athletes when tryouts come around.
The answer is almost always fitness. Not skill — fitness. The kid who’s still moving hard in the last 20 minutes is the kid who gets noticed. Rep Ready exists to make sure that kid is yours.
Every session is coached. Not supervised — coached. Max 8 in gym sessions. A structured program behind every fitness session. I know what the coaches on the other side of tryouts are looking for, because I’m one of them.
Questions
Who is this for?
Any athlete aged 10–18 trying out for VJBL rep basketball — whether you’re breaking in for the first time or already in the program and need to protect your spot.
Can I just do drop-in sessions?
Yes. Fitness sessions are $20 drop-in and gym sessions are $50 drop-in, subject to spot availability. Block purchases get priority and lock in your spot for all 7 sessions. Drop-ins fill remaining spots only.
What does a fitness session look like?
60 minutes on two basketball courts at Boroondara Sports Complex. Structured warm-up and activation, sprint mechanics and agility work, leg strength and power, and up to 30 minutes of game-intensity conditioning. Everything coached and intentional — not just a run.
Why are gym sessions capped at 8?
At that size every athlete gets coached, not just supervised. Form is corrected, load is adjusted, and the session is actually effective. It’s intentional.
Do I need to be a Hawthorn Magic player?
No. Rep Ready is open to all VJBL athletes regardless of club.
